This pack is the Wonderful North educational guide for use with students aged 16+. The guide covers a cross section of subjects including Fine Art, Art History, Arts Management, Curating, Design and Technology, Social Geography, and History. It is designed to represent and highlight the diversity of subjects, issues and discussions that the Wonderful North commission deals with. It will provide ways in or routes through to specific areas of interest on the website.

Presented in the format of an interactive mind map you can navigate through each section quickly, there are introductions to topics which will allow educators to establish the relevance to their teaching programme or subject areas. Each section of the pack provides the user with tools to initiate a discussion or activity; you will find expanded information, case studies, images and videos. The pack contains multiple discussion points and activities for a variety of abilities which are suitable for either small or large groups. These can be found throughout the pack as well as in the discussion and activity sections.

The public art section asks the user to consider; what is public art and what is its function? It focuses on makers and commissioners, regeneration, cultural tourism, landmark art, community identity and community engagement.

The personal maps and journeys section asks the user to consider navigation and personal mapping and the Wonderful North road trip route.

The north section asks the user to consider what shapes the north, the clichés and stereotypes that exist, how we create identities for cities and towns, and the global versus the local.

The exhibition section asks the user to consider Expo 08 the artists’ web based project, the decisions the artists made, their influences and choices, the users experience and virtual place.
